After a lazy (though slightly too early for my sleepy body) breakfast, we all piled into a Buick LeSabre (I had to sit in that horrible third front seat that is only truly comfy if you're five years old!) and drove to Fort McHenry, which is most famous for fighting the battle and raising the flag that inspired the penning of the Star Spangled Banner. We listened to an overeager college-aged ranger wax poetic about the flag and about what it might have been like to be in Baltimore while the British were invading. Then we went into the inner courtyard of the fort and got to help unfurl a HUGE flag (something like 20x30 feet?) and hoist it up the flagpole. That was fun. You can see the huge flag in the pictures. Anyways, it was hot and sunny, but quite enjoyable (though I am now sporting some mighty pink shoulders!).
The Johnsons (plus Matt)
Sisters! (Aren't we adorable?)
Awww......
Other than that...I worked tonight and watched a mother who had so spoiled her four or five year old boy that she had absolutely no control over him - she surrendered helplessly to him (at one point, she turned to me, shrugged, and said "I just can't resist," as if it were impossible for her to take any action against her child). I felt like I was watching Dr. Phil. Yeah...that's about it for the evening. But...I need sleep. I work at 9:30, and my parents are showing up at 8:15 with homemade scones (they have a cute kitchen in their guest room)...
[sunburn day one: pink, hot, but not too sore. i'll keep you posted.]
