the human body

all the most beautiful poems
are about sex.

dreamy and sensual mystery stories
where the heroine is soft skin
and the sweet smell of orange blossom perfume
behind her ears
down her neck
along the soft bones of her shoulder,
the taste of citrus on her lips
and on her fingertips

we love the romance of marriage,
where passionate parents tiptoe around
children's bedtimes,
where children are intimacy personified
and the exhaustion of the day
leaves mother and father spooning
after all the bedtime stories have been read.

sing of ourselves,
our God-given skin and bones,
the jiggly parts we hate
that our lovers adore
and the blessing of soft breath
and soft kisses;
the way we fit together
and the way that skin feels so alive
next to other skin
