so this is what the world has come to.
as each day goes by i find myself confirming a particular truth about myself that i had always suspected, but had never fully embraced (or appreciated):
i am a geek!
here are the prime indicators:
1. the fact that i don't use internet explorer, aim, or microsoft word these days in favor of their open-source counterparts: mozilla firefox, gaim, and open office
2. related to #1, the fact that matt is very successfully running linux on his computer and i am jealous...
3. i have an ipod. now, some people might think this trendy. but for me, it's a part of this whole tendency i have to get excited about gadgets and shiny things, whether or not i want to own them.
4. sometimes (often) when matt and i are hanging out, we customize computers on the dell website just for fun. granted we are in the early stages of laptop shopping...but...we know that we're getting an ibook, so really looking at dell is totally unnecessary. except that we think it's fun.
5. matt and i now own three different video game consoles.
6. and speaking of video game consoles...i have now become immersed in my first serious rpg, skies of arcadia legends for gamecube.
yes. that's a picture. i thought that this occasion deserved some sort of graphical commemoration.
now i have to remind you all that there is nothing bad about being a geek. in fact, there is something about geekiness that is inherently cool. really, the more that i think about it, i realize that if i could have better-embraced my inner nerd in high school, then i might not have to be so excited about my geek-status-revelation. and i have to credit my wonderful sweet amazing husband for a lot of my current level of geekiness.
i love who i am.
and i mean that.
i can be me and fully me, and i can embrace the sophisticated parts, the cool parts, the pretty parts, the goofy parts, the imperfect parts, the geeky parts, the artsy parts, the stubborn parts, the clingy parts...
gotta love yourself!
melissa! i love your blog(s) especially this post. i'm a total geek too... i use open office and mozilla as well. also, a friend of mine and i are currently in the process of building a computer so i can run, yes, linux on it. so i appreciate the fact that there are other geeky girls out there. in fact, we have lots in common it seems, being geeks, loving youth ministry, playing the flute. wait, are we the same person?? :) traci
