here fishy fishy fishy

my poor sister: at the exact moment that the sox won the world series last week, her fish (named tuesday) died. (my family are avid cubs fans. we think it's a sign.)

little did i know that it was going to be a double fish death week.

thomas died saturday night. he was a happy fish, friendly, bright red and beautiful. he was nearly two years old. matt and his mom can attest to this - he was truly friendly. he responded to noise and would swim over to whatever side of the fishbowl you were on, just to say hi.

today was the day to buy a new fish. i stood there in the middle of the pet store for at least ten minutes, probably looking like a complete idiot, examining the rows and rows of betas that were sitting there in their own individual plastic cups. and after all my careful searching, here is the little guy that i brought home:

meet sebastian! :)

the past two fish i've had have been carefully named after theologians (my first fish was named martin, after martin luther; and then thomas, after st. thomas aquinas). this time, i decided that i was going to go for a different spin, though still (to me) having much to do with a theological mind. so my new fish is named sebastian, after johann sebastian bach, my most favorite composer and a brilliant church musician and composer.

welcome, fishy!

  1. That's funny, my "pet" name for my car is Sebastian, after the one and only. And my beta's name is Picasso. :)
