These Days

The past couple weeks in review:

Two weeks ago (or thereabouts), I sang at LSTC's graduation. Like my own at PTS, it was full of ceremony and stained glass. It was a strange feeling to be a part of graduation but not actually graduating...I know that I already have my degree, but I also wish that I'd have something to show for this past year. I also wish I could have experienced that sort of rite of passage with the friends I made during my time at LSTC.

Since then, I've been knitting up a storm - I'm 45 minutes away from finishing the seaming on my girly, warm, pink sweater...the pattern is Mrs. Darcy, and it's fabulously feminine with plenty of character. Beautiful. I'll be sure to post pictures when I'm done!

This past weekend was my sister Bethany's college graduation from St. Olaf. It always feels good to go back up there. I swear, if I have my way, I'm going to end up living in Northfield for the rest of my life and teaching in St. Olaf's religion department. It was a full and wonderful weekend. Matt and I got up before dawn on Friday to fly into Minneapolis, met up with my parents, and spent the morning in and about the city. Steph drove up from Des Moines, and while Bethany was busy doing senior week things with her friends, the rest of us went and had a tasty dinner at Broders' Pasta Bar (seriously the best pasta restaurant I've ever eaten at) and then headed off to the Metrodome for a Twins game with friends.

Saturday afternoon was the St. Olaf Choir alumni choir rehearsal. Dr. A is right when he says that once you are an Ole Choir member, you are a member for life. It was a fulfilling hour of singing, and it reminded me that while I miss choir more than perhaps anything else I've been a part of over the last handful of years, I'm yet more grateful that I had my time to spend in it, and I have many many wonderful memories of my time with the organization. The concert that night was fabulous, even if during Dr. A's senior introductions, he made specific mention of mom and dad while talking about Beth (and added me in at the last minute as "the older sister"...I feel bad for Beth, that her senior bio got usurped by Dr. A's unnatural infatuation with my parents!).

Afterwards, we went to Basil's for gyros pizza (as usual).

Sunday started off with a very tearful Baccalaureate service, and then our running around to various department receptions. We went to the math and education departments with Beth, and Matt and I both visited other receptions to say hi to former professors (English and religion departments for me, economics and physics departments for Matt). Graduation itself was everything that you'd expect it to be - sort of long, sort of boring, but full of Ole pride, pageantry, and excitement. It was a warm, sunny, breezy day - perfect graduation weather. (Even if I did manage to sunburn myself purple!)

Other than that, I'm still working with the after-school program at the U of Chicago Lab School (they finish up next week), and preparing for a move to Rockford at the end of the month.

So that's what's up with me these days. A bit lazy, a bit rambling, a bit disorganized, but generally happy. :)
